Product description
From around 1330, some bascinets were fitted with a klappvisier. Helmets like these featured a visor with a hinge point in the center of the helmet bowl. This type of helmet was particularly popular in the Holy Roman Empire and remained in use there well into the 15th century. Klappvisiers were found throughout Europe. In Northern Italy, they are depicted in a Crucifixion scene in the chapter hall of Santa Maria Novella in Florence, around 1367. Their use in Italy seems to have disappeared by around 1380.
This bascinet has vervelles to which an aventail (camail) can be attached. Often, a padded arming collar was worn under the camail to prevent irritation and provide additional protection from impacts.
