Product description

The hangeroc is a type of dress that was worn by Vikings and other early medieval people over a slip dress. The hangeroc was originally worn with turtle brooches, to fasten the front to the shoulders. The shoulder part was often much longer and shield brooches were used to lift up the front fabric just above the breasts. Most modern hangeroc reproduction already are the correct length, so turtle brooches are often not needed for practical purposes. But you can just wear the turtle brooches as decoration, or to still lift up the front part of the hangeroc to your taste. Between the shield brooch, women wore a number of strands with colored beads. They also wore a belt over the hangeroc, this gave more shape to the garment but was also useful for hanging the key, a pouch, a knife, etc. This hangeroc is open at the front. You can fasten it with the cotton laces on the front, you can also use them to create a tighter fit.
