Product description

This medieval bascinet is a replica of a late 14th to early 15th-century original. The great bascinet was developed at the beginning of the 15th century. Its main advantage over the traditional bascinet is the addition of a neck guard, which provides extra protection to the neck, making an aventail (camail) no longer strictly necessary. Bascinets like this offered excellent protection and were used both on the battlefield and in jousting tournaments.

Bascinets of this type were worn throughout Europe during the 15th century. This particular model was likely of Italian manufacture. The luxurious houndskull bascinet features a movable neck guard, and both the visor and skull are sharply pointed to deflect blows. The helmet can easily be fitted with attachments for an aventail.

This battle-ready bascinet is made from 2 mm thick steel and includes an adjustable leather liner.
