Product description
In the early 12th century, several types of the popular nasal helmet emerged. Phrygian nasal helmets get their name from their shape, which resembles the Phrygian cap. The Phrygian helmet was not a regional trend but was used throughout Europe. Its distinctive shape may have been influenced by a thickening of the steel at the front, providing extra protection where blows were most likely to strike, as the front was the most vulnerable area.
This type of helmet remained popular until the end of the 12th century and was primarily worn by infantry in the 13th century. In medieval manuscripts, nasal helmets like this are consistently depicted in combination with an aventail.
A beautiful helmet for medieval reenactment, reenactment battles, and Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA).
