Product description
This barbute is made after a beautiful original from 1465. The original is currently housed in the Musée de l’Armée in Paris. The barbute was crafted in the Lombard city of Missaglia.
The barbute is a type of sallet developed so that the wearer would not need to attach a chainmail camail or other neck protection to the helmet. Barbutes like this one originated in northern Italy in the early 15th century. The forward-curving edges of the helmet provide protection for the cheeks and face while not obstructing the field of vision.
The helmet is made of 1.6 mm thick steel and fitted with a leather liner. Its decoration and design make this barbute a unique piece. It weighs approximately 2 kg and is suitable for a head circumference of up to 62 cm.
