Product description
In the early 12th century, several types of the popular nasal helmet emerged. Phrygian nasal helmets owe their name to their shape, which resembles a Phrygian cap. The Phrygian helmet was not a regional trend but was used throughout Europe. Its distinctive shape was likely caused by a thickening of the steel at the front of the helmet, providing extra protection where strikes were most likely. This type of helmet remained popular until the late 12th century and was primarily used by infantry in the 13th century. Interestingly, in medieval manuscripts, nasal helmets like this are almost always depicted worn in combination with a chainmail coif.Product details
