Product description
This spatha is not an exact replica of 1 particular museum piece, but it is based on original remains of several spathas from the second century AD. which are exhibited in the Limes Museum in Aalen, Germany. From the end of the second century, the spatha began to gain popularity among Roman legionaries and auxiliae, at the expense of the gladius. The spatha was a lot longer than the gladius, so it was also perfect for cavalry troops. The infantry carried the spatha on the right side and the cavalry carried it on the left side. This spatha has a beautiful wooden hilt and a screwed pommel. It is delivered including a leather scabbard with a wooden core. The scabbard has a beautiful brass belt loop (for belts up to 5.5 cm wide) and brass fittings on the top and bottom.
