Product description

Saint Wenceslaus was Count of Bohemia from 921 to 935. He was murdered by his brother and was subsequently declared a martyr. Today, he is the patron saint of the Czech Republic.

This battle-ready helmet is an authentic replica of the so-called Wenceslaus Helmet, a 10th-century helm discovered near Prague. The helmet is made from two halves of 2 mm thick steel, welded together in the center. The band is made of 3 mm thick steel and riveted to the helmet. It fastens under the chin with a strap and authentic buckle and features a leather liner for comfort. The helmet weighs 2.35 kg.

From the mid-11th century, nasal helmets like this were made from a single piece of steel. This was stronger but more expensive than the spangenhelm, which was constructed from multiple parts. These nasal helmets were universally conical into the early 12th century. Helmets of this type remained in use throughout Europe until the late 12th century. Interestingly, medieval manuscripts always depict nasal helmets like this in combination with a chainmail coif.

The helmet is available in sizes M and L: size M fits head circumferences up to 62 cm, and size L fits up to 65 cm.
