Product description
The original helmet was found in 1939 at the English town of Woodbridge during archaeological research after the Saxon boat grave of Sutton Hoo. Nowadays it is part of the collection of the British Museum in London. The helmet shows similarities with the 7th century helmets found in Vendel (Sweden). This helmet is provided with the late Roman neck and cheek flaps, the engravings of the helmet and the grave in which it was found give the impression that it was property of a Saxon king / chief.
This helmet is a realistic replica of the original, just like the original it is inlaid with decorated iron plates, on which Saxon knot motives, warriors, horsemen and possibly a religious ritual are depicted. The plates are attached to each other with metal strips. Just like the Vendelhelm the Sutton Hoo helmet has a crest in the middle, this ends in a dragon motive that is ornamented with red email.
This helmet is provided with a leather inlay for extra wearing comfort and is made of 1,3 mm thick steel. The helmet is battle-ready and is suitable for a head circumference up to 61 cm. It weighs approx. 2,85 kg.
This helmet is a museum replica.
