Product description

The Katzbalger is a short sword from the Renaissance, known for its sturdy appearance and S-shaped guard. The Katzbalger was mainly used by archers, pikemen and crossbowmen when the enemy threatened to get too close. The sword is mainly made for cutting, because the tip is quite round. The large guard serves to avert attacks, but it leaves the hand vulnerable for thrusting attacks. The Katzbalger was used by the German Landsknechten, the Swiss Guard, but also in Elizabethan England and at the start of the Eighty Years War.
