Product description

This falchion can be classified in the Elmslie typology as type 1c. It is characterized by its notched tips and flattened back. This type of blade is particularly known for its appearance in the Maciejowski Bible. Often, these specific blades are mounted on a “knife-like” grip, which may or may not be curved. Elmslie has sometimes described these blades as “proto-messer,” because in terms of construction they resemble a knife more than a sword. There is evidence that these weapons may be related to North Italian forms of tools/weapons, possibly referred to as Falcastro.

In medieval manuscripts such as the Maciejowski Bible, this weapon is mainly depicted in the hands of enemies or exotic figures.
