What is the best way to weather chainmail?
If you want your chainmail shirt to look worn, that is certainly possible. You can weather your chainmail yourself.
Holes
You can use a bending plier or cutting plier to remove pieces of chainmail around the bottom, so it looks “torn” and damaged. You can also use this method to make holes in different parts of the chainmail shirt.
Rust
Another good way to make a chainmail shirt look weathered and old is by making it rusty. An easy way to do this is by mixing water, salt, and vinegar in a spray bottle and spraying this mixture on the chainmail shirt. It takes some time before you see the effect, and the longer you let the mixture work, the more rust you get. The more vinegar you use in the mixture, the faster and more intense the effect will be.
