How can I best put on my breastplate and backplate?

Putting on your breastplate and backplate is not very difficult, but there are a few things you need to keep in mind. It would be easier if you have someone to assist you with some parts of this process.

Fit

Before wearing your armor for the first time, it can be useful to first try it on for the fit.

Make sure you wear the underlayers you plan to wear with your armor during this fitting session, such as a gambeson and a chainmail shirt.

Start by fitting the breastplate. Simply place it on your shoulders and let it rest against your chest. If you feel that the breastplate is too tight or too loose around the neck, take it off again. You can slightly bend the shoulder parts so that the breastplate fits better.

If you are satisfied with the fit around your neck, you can check the fit around your torso. If you find that the breastplate is a bit too wide or too tight, you can bend it again slightly to fit better.

Once you have the breastplate fitting well, you can repeat this process with the backplate.

Securing

When both parts of your torso armor fit well, you can start securing the front and back together. On the shoulders and sides are straps and buckles.

Start by securing the straps on the shoulders to the corresponding buckles. Once these are secured, you can do the same with the buckles on the sides.
