Transform your appearance with the application of SFX prosthetics

Special effects prosthetics can be used to alter your facial features or to create fake wounds. SFX Prosthetics are generally made from latex or silicone and must be applied with a special, skin-safe adhesive such as Mastix Spirit Gum. Leather here how you can easily apply SFX prosthetics

What do you need?

-isopropyl alcohol

-make-up cotton pad

-prosthesis

-Spirit Gum

-liquid latex (optional)

-cotton swab

-scissors

-baby powder (optional)

-powder brush (optional)

How to apply an SFX prosthesis:

Step 1:

A prosthesis should be applied to clean skin, completely free of product. Clean your skin with some alcohol at the spot where the prosthesis will be glued.

Step 2:

Before you glue your prosthesis, do a test placement first. Sometimes you need to trim the edges of the prosthesis slightly for a better fit.

When you want to apply prosthetics that do not cover your own facial features, such as horns and wounds, you can first place the prosthetic without glue and dab around it with a brush with some baby powder. This way you can mark the placement before you start gluing.

Step 3:

First, apply the glue to the part of your skin where you want to place the prosthetic. Let this layer of glue dry completely. When the glue is dry, apply another layer of glue to the same spot and the inside of the prosthetic. Wait until the glue is tacky and press the prosthetic firmly onto your skin.

Step 4:

To blend the edges a bit more, you can mix some glue with baby powder and spread this paste around the edges of the prosthetic. You can use a cotton swab or a small brush for this. Spread it out so that the layer of paste at the edges is as thick as the prosthetic, but blend it into your own skin. You can also use liquid latex for this.

If the prosthetic comes loose during the day, you can apply some more glue under the prosthetic or reactivate the glue with some alcohol.

Prosthetics can be removed with glue remover or 99% alcohol. Use a cotton swab to apply the remover around the edges first. Once part of the edge comes loose, you can slowly move the cotton swab with the remover under the prosthetic until it is completely detached.

The glue can dry out your skin, so it is advisable to apply a moisturizing cream after removing the prosthetic.
