This iron horseshoe fibula is based on historical originals. Fibulae like this were used from Roman times, throughout the Migration Period, and beyond. They are especially known because, in early medieval Old Irish culture, this type of fibula was crafted in the most luxurious forms. With the exception of the highest class, fibulae like this were more common for everyday use.
