Product description

The gladius is the weapon that enabled the Roman legionaries to conquer a large part of the world. They were in use from around the third century BC. until the third century AD. There are different types of gladii, which are named after their place of origin. This replica is based on a late Roman original excavated in Xanten from around the third century AD. This find is difficult to classify as a certain type of gladius. Around the end of the third century people started using the longer spatha.

This luxurious gladius is an asset for collectors of classic weapons and for Roman re-enactors. It has a blade of EN45 steel and a hilt of bone and wood with a screwed pommel. It is delivered including a leather scabbard with a wooden core. The scabbard is beautifully decorated with brass fittings. The two squares show warfare and victory iconography. The bottom square shows a fully armed figure on a chariot. The top square shows a fully armed figure surrounded by victorious iconography, like laurels. The lower side is decorative, with a palmette and a decorated scabbard tip. The scabbard has brass rings so you can hang it on your belt.
