In the fantasy world, there are many fantasy races and sub-races. For assembling your costume and thus your character, it is useful to have an overview of the most common different races. Here is a list from which you can work to choose a costume for your ideal character. When choosing a race, it is advisable to also keep in mind whether you will use make-up and body prosthetics. These can be a nice addition to your character, but it requires extra skills and can sometimes be difficult to wear all day at an event.
Human
Humans are the ordinary inhabitants of most worlds. Due to their ingenuity and adaptability, they can live anywhere and at any time. They make enthusiastic adventurers, although they rarely live long enough to see the results of their actions.
Dwarf
Dwarves are subterranean beings dedicated to warfare and craftsmanship. Their toughness allows them to thrive in harsh conditions.
Elf
Elves are elegant beings with a strong connection to the feywild, a fairyland of ancient forests and strange, magical creatures.
Gnome
Gnomes are mysterious small creatures with an affinity for technology and illusionary magic. Most gnome societies prefer to remain hidden from humans, fearing their enigmatic secrets might fall into the wrong hands.
Half-Elf
Half-elves are the children of elves and humans. They represent a rare bridge between the worlds of both races, often being either cherished or rejected by both.
Tiefling
Tieflings are the marked descendants of those who have made a pact with a devilish entity. They are confronted with prejudice and discrimination by most human societies due to their devilish appearance, and many do not fully engage in the adventurous life by choice.
Bugbear
Bugbears are the largest, strongest, and hairiest of all goblinoids and often become leaders of the clans and tribes of their smaller kin. Most fearsome tribes value strength and senseless violence, although some are friendlier and more peaceful than others.
Shifters
Shifters, also known as the weretouched, are the descendants of humans and lycanthropes with the ability to partially transform into a beastly form. For a short time, they can draw from their primal heritage, transform parts of their body, and enhance their capabilities.
Warforged
Warforged are constructs with a humanoid form and possess free will through ancient magic. They were originally built as weapons of war centuries ago, but now they must find their own meaning in the world.
Orc
Orcs (and Half-orcs) are fierce creatures, heavier and larger than humans, with pig-like faces and tusks. Many orc tribes value strength and ritual violence, pray to dark gods, and often cause conflicts with other humanoid societies. Other tribes have learned to live peacefully alongside humans, from whom most half-orcs are descended.
Dragonborn
Dragonborn is a unique people, created by draconic gods to be their servants. Being part humanoid and part dragon, they can use their elemental breath as weapon, just like their winged cousins.
