Product description
The kopis was a one-handed Greek weapon with a forward-curving, single-edged blade. Originally, the term referred to a heavy chopping tool used for cutting meat and performing ritual sacrifices, but it later came to denote this type of sword. The name comes from the Greek kopis (κοπίς), derived from koptō (κόπτω), meaning “to cut” or “to strike.”
The origin of the kopis is debated: some point to Etruscan examples from the 7th century BCE, but this remains a topic of scholarly discussion.
