Buy Viking sword at Celtic WebMerchant

The viking sword is one of the most iconic weapons from the early Middle Ages. Emerging from the Frankish and Carolingian sword tradition, this sword developed in the 8th century into the favored weapon of the Norse warriors. Our collection of Viking swords is based on original finds from Scandinavia and Europe, carefully reconstructed into museum-quality top-notch replicas s.

Craftsmanship & history

Viking swords symbolized status, honor, and craftsmanship. Only the wealthier warriors could afford a sword – often adorned with silver, inlays, or damask patterns. Many blades, such as the famous Ulfberht swords, were manufactured in the Frankish Empire and brought north through trade or plundering.

Our models – from the Haithabu sword to the Dybek and Suontaka sword – are made according to historical blacksmithing techniques. Available in both decorative versions and battle-ready versions of high-quality carbon or damascus steel.

The Petersen Typology

Viking swords are often classified according to the Petersen Typology (1919), a system that analyzed more than 1,700 finds from Norway. Petersen distinguished 26 main types (A–Æ) based on the shape of pommel and crossguard.
Each type reflects a period in the Viking Age – from the simple early Type A and B swords to the refined Type S and X models that form the transition to the medieval arming sword.
Thanks to this typology, our replicas s can be as accurately as possible matched to historical originals, giving you an authentic piece of history in your hands.

Characteristics of a Viking sword

An authentic viking sword can be recognized by:

  • A broad, double-edged blade with fuller

  • A short crossguard and distinctive pommel with 3 or 5 lobes

  • A balanced design that combines power and speed

Whether you are a collector, reenactor, or history enthusiast – our Viking swords bring the past to life.
